Caroline Starry is a freelance writer and editor living in Houston, her adopted home. She's also a 7th generation Texan reared on a ranch near the western edge of the Hill Country where life involved 4H, four-wheelers, small town Sonic and cleaning out water troughs when she got in trouble in high school. She both twirled batons and led cheers. It was like living in a Larry McMurtry novel.
Caroline earned a degree in Corporate Communication from the University of Texas at Austin followed by a J.D. from South Texas College of Law in Houston, the latter of which she's never regretted not technically using. Though she does believe she went into law school a pretty decent writer and came out a much better writer.
After stints over a almost a decade planning events and overseeing public and media relations for a local clean air org called GHASP, the Contemporary Arts Museum Houston, international philanthropist Becca Cason Thrash, and revered, lifestyle media relations firm Studio Communications, Caroline launched a freelance writing, editing and consulting business in 2012. Her favorite recent writing/branding/media outreach project includes her family's chic spot in Fredericksburg: Starry's Studio.
Today, she loves going places and seeing stuff, collecting koozies and art, living in Houston, raising money for awesome orgs and writing for interesting, noteworthy clients and publications.
Music to Caroline's ears is when a client tells her, "This is exactly what I wanted to say...I just didn't know how to say it."
While working for an array of clients, she's also perpetually focused on a book of her own, which changes subjects and/or formats every year or so. As she ponders the maybe/someday published future, Caroline lives in the Montrose neighborhood of Houston with her rescue pups.
